Founded in 2010, Seven on Seven (7x7) pairs artists with tech luminaries for deep conversation and day-long collaboration. Each pair is given a simple assignment: make something new.

The results–which may be an app, a prototype, a performance, an artwork–are unveiled for the first time at a public event. Many of the projects go on to further development and exhibition.

Over the years, 7x7 has given rise to notable projects and conversations:

In 2014, artist Kevin McCoy minted “the first NFT” as part of his collaboration with technologist Anil Dash.

An artwork presented by artist Taryn Simon and programmer/activist Aaron Swartz at 7x7 2012 has gone on to be exhibited around the world, and covered in publications such as the New York Times.

And on the lighter side, artist Jayson Musson and Jonah Peretti presented a satirical demo for a new social network called Blockedt! at 7x7 2017.

The aims of the StreamArtNetwork are diverse, radical, and utopian at the same time. The network streams together, mixing and layering, meeting in-between platforms, localities and realities. We stream against war, neo-imperial invasions, genocide and limited mobility. Against big-tech centralization and neo-liberal social media monopolies with their 30-second ‘influencers’. We invite all like-minded to join, in favor of an endless exploration of time-spaces that we are creating together in our collective, heterogeneous hyper-realities – in glocal, hybrid, innovative, decentralized, low-budget, and sustainable ways, in a permanent process of learning and teaching by streaming for change, together.
